Bleed Control Ready – Suffolk

Street First Aid is proud to be launching a new community safety project – Bleed Control Ready – designed to make Suffolk’s night-time economy safer for everyone.

We are inviting 30 pubs, clubs, and late-night venues across Suffolk to join us in becoming “Bleed Control Ready.” Once we have secured participating venues, we will apply for funding to cover the full cost of equipment and training, ensuring there is no financial burden on those who sign up.

What the Project Involves

Each participating venue will receive:

• A sealed bleed control kit – containing trauma dressings, scissors, foil blanket, gloves, and other life-saving items.
• A one-hour staff training session – giving teams the skills and confidence to manage severe bleeding caused by knife injuries, accidents, or medical emergencies.
• A window sticker – showing that your venue is officially “Bleed Control Ready,” reassuring your customers and highlighting your commitment to public safety.
• Promotion in our public campaign – celebrating the venues that are stepping up to protect their communities.

All kits are registered and tracked by Street First Aid. When items approach expiry, we’ll contact venues to discuss simple, low-cost replacement options so they remain ready to respond.

Why It Matters

Bleeding can lead to death in under five minutes. In the last year alone, there were more than 900 knife-related incidents reported in the East of England, including multiple stabbings in Suffolk towns such as Ipswich, Lowestoft, and Bury St Edmunds. Quick action, with the right kit and training, can mean the difference between life and death while waiting for emergency services.

Next Steps

We are currently seeking 30 venues to commit to joining the project. Once we reach this number, we will move forward with funding applications and begin scheduling kit placement and training.
